A well-designed user interface (UI) isn’t only about aesthetics—it’s about how the tool works for people. We want AI to work better for teachers. More time thinking about the evolving needs of your classroom and connecting instruction to where your students are is better than time spent scouring the internet for standards-aligned resources. So we brought standards directly to the workspace. The Standards Search tool allows you to integrate national educational standards into your lesson plans and instructional materials.

As of today, you can search for and inject the following standards directly into your topic bar:

  1. Common Core English Language Arts (ELA)
  2. Common Core Mathematics
  3. Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
  4. National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) Standards

How Does It Work?

Getting started with the Standards Search tool is straightforward. Here’s a quick guide to help you navigate the tool:

Accessing the Tool

  • Begin by clicking on the magnifying glass icon next to the "enhance" button in your Eduaide workspace. This will open the Standards Search window.

Choosing Your Standard

  • The window that pops up will display the relevant standard set for your subject and grade (e.g., Common Core ELA, Middle School, Grades 6-8). You can change the grade level and subject to view different standards.
  • The structure of the tool closely mirrors the physical documents of these standards, allowing you to cross-reference and verify the information easily.

Searching for Standards

  • You can search by:
    • Standard number: If you know the exact code, simply input it into the search bar.
    • Specific grade level: Narrow your search to standards applicable to your specific grade.
    • Standard topic: For instance, if you’re focusing on writing, type "writing" into the search bar, and the relevant Common Core ELA writing standards will appear.

Incorporating Standards into Your Lesson Plan:

  • Once you’ve selected a standard, you can add additional context to accompany it or attach a secondary standard. This will create a chain in the topic bar, allowing you to align instructional components to multiple standards seamlessly.

Why Standards Alignment Matter

For most teachers, educational standards are an inescapable part of the profession. Whether they influence your planning on a surface level or fundamentally shape the trajectory of your instruction, these standards serve an organizing function. They can provide a mechanism for accountability or ensure some level consistency in education across different contexts.

To truly guide curriculum development, however, standards must be understood by the practitioner at the level of practice. This is where our Standards Search tool can be particularly useful. You can use it throughout the planning tab of the content generator to:

  • Unpack the standard to define learning objectives & success criteria
  • Identify student relevant prior knowledge & scaffolding needs
  • Outline assessment measures relevant to the standard.
  • Design rubrics to assess student mastery of the standard.

Standards search, moreover, is found on the workspace across the Content Generator and Assessment Builder tools for you to employ in whatever creative ways you can imagine.

So whether you’re using the Standards Search tool to build assessments, design cooperative learning structures, or plan a day’s activities, we hope this tool makes National Standards more approachable and their instructional implications more apparent.

As always we’d love to hear what you think of the workspace and how we can improve it.

On a more granular level, please use the thumbs up / thumbs down button in the bottom right of your card. This can help us adjust the workspace at the individual resource level.
